Autumn Flower Show - Peas-in-a-Pod,
Nuts About Nature and Royal Dandy Lions

        A small, but historical event was staged in the home of Bill and Mary Lee Minor, on October 4 and 5 when junior members of three garden clubs arranged to interpret the lines of a poem "Autumn in a Basket".
        The Peas-in-a-Pod, Nuts About Nature and Royal Dandy Lions provided artistic and horticulture exhibits to fill the rooms of the home. Each designer had to consider the colors and placement of his arrangement.
Judged by Ohio Association of Garden Clubs accredited judge Virginia Sharp of Mansfield, there were three top honors:
Sara Gebhardt won the 'Artistic Best of Show' and 'Judges Award of Distinction' while Lena Stiles had the 'Best of Show horticulture entry.
  • Tessa Starner of Nuts About Nature provided an educational display "I Got Plenty of Nuttin' ' which showed edible nuts to be harvested and offered tastes of the nutmeats. Recipes were shared.
  • Royal Dandy Lions member Lauren Rausch lettered her way to 'Pickin' Up Pawpaws' to show the foliage, the fresh fruit, seeds, and even young seedlings of pawpaws. A handout passed along seeds to viewers.
  •         Winners in the horticulture section were Lena Stiles, Kallan Stiles, Josh Bailey, Sara Gebhardt, Claire Miller, Aryn Copeland, and Lynae Rausch. They exhibited potted annual plants to bring indoors, a collection of three pods from their yards, and petunias, celosia, and marigolds.

'Spiked with twinkling stars' predominately white: Sara Gebhardt, first; Lean Stiles, second; Lauren Rausch, third; Josh Bailey, hm. 'Lined with indian summer' pottery: Kayle Ort, first; Kinzee Jones second; Lynae Rausch, third; Zoe Kent, hm.
            A small design 'Berried Wealth' was limited to 7" in any direction: Sara Gebhardt, first, Lauren Rausch, second, Josh Bailey, third; Claire Miller, hm Four club members made arrangements for the first time. They were Josh Bailey, Tom Hessey, Claire Miller and Kayle Ort. The show was accomplished by 16 members who collectively made 56 exhibits. Visitors numbered around 75 friends, relatives and fellow garden club members.
            The report summary of the show is being submitted to the OAGC state flower show chairman for scoring. All three clubs will resume monthly meetings later this month, October 21 for Peas-in-a-Pod and October 29 for Royal Dandy Lions and Nuts About Nature.
