BUCYRUS, OH  -  On Thursday, September 25th, the Bucyrus Lady Redmen Tennis Team had their ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open Bucyrus High School's new tennis courts. Afterwards, the Lady Redmen hosted the St. Peter's Lady Spartans to a non-league tennis match.
The new courts are located in the northeast corner of the High School property.  The old courts were removed to make room for the new Middle School addition being added to the High School.
Until this ceremony, the Bucyrus Girls Tennis Team had to hold their home tennis matches on the opposing team's tennis courts.  The match today, and their final match against the Ontario Lady Warriors on Tuesday, September 30th will be played on the new Bucyrus High School Tennis Courts.
Bucyrus Mayor Dan Ross was present, and had a Proclamation honoring Bill Kennedy.  Mayor Ross stated that Bill was the instrumental person in seeing to it that, the Bucyrus High School tennis courts were to become a reality.  In less than six months, Bill had raised the necessary funds to reconstruct tennis courts for Bucyrus High School.  Bill Kennedy was a Bucyrus Redmen Tennis Team member when he was in high school.
The new courts are different in color from the old tennis courts.  The new courts have the US Open color, which allow you to really see the tennis ball.  "You can really see the spin on the ball as it comes at you now. This allows you to decide how you want to return hit the ball back at your opponent", said Bill Kennedy.
"You are making the Community a little better than it was before, and that is always a good thing", said Mayor Dan Ross.
"I think they (the new tennis courts) are fantastic" said Mrs. John Kennedy.
