LIBERTY TOWNSHIP - On Saturday, September 20th, the Elkhorn Lake Hunt Club held their annual Family Fun Day and Youth Pheasant Hunt. Over 125 kids came out to this year's event.
Some of the learning activities offered that day were, archery instruction from the Christian Bow Hunters Association; ODNR hunting, fishing and watercraft safety; Friends of the NRA had donated "Range Kits" for the kids; Pond Ecology; trapping by a volunteer from the Ohio State Trapper's Association; plus proper handling of pellet guns, .22 caliber rifles and shotguns; at the seven different locations around the Elkhorn Lake Hunt Club. Even a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation from the Loss Creek (Crawford) Chapter was on hand, to talk about wild turkeys here in Ohio.
For many of these kids, it was their first exposure to archery or firearms shooting.
Another fantastic program offered this day was the Youth Pheasant Hunt. The hunt was for hunters of at least 12 years old, and the kids had random times chosen at the event, as to when they got their turn to go hunt pheasants.
Door prizes were given away, with two major ones being a new pellet rifle donated by the Ruffed Grouse Society of Columbus, which was won by Blake Williamson. Also a new Savage .22 caliber rifle, donated by the New Washington Gun and Safe company, and that was won by Alec Miller.
